Seagate offers multiple drive lines targeted to both consumer and enterprise implementations. Among the drives aimed at enterprise uses (including NAS, SAN, nearline storage, etc., depending on model) are the Cheetah 15K.5, the Savvio 10K.2, the NL35 Series, and the new Barracuda ES drive. - The Cheetah 15K.5 drives boast a 15,000 RPM platter speed and are offered with Ultra320 SCSI, 3 Gb/sec SAS, or 4 Gb/sec Fibre Channel interfaces. - The Savvio 10K.2 drives are smaller (2.5 inch) drives targeted primarily to rack/blade server deployments. The drives boast a 1.4 million hour MTBF rating, and are offered in 36, 73, and now 146 GB capacities (Ultra320 SCSI or 3 Gb/sec SAS). The 10,000 RPM drives feature an average read/write seek time of 4.1/4.5 milliseconds, and a sustained transfer rate of 41 to 63 MB/sec. 数据挖掘研究院
- The NL35 series is a line of hard drives targeted to nearline storage implementations. The vendor notes example uses of the drives including disk-to-disk backup and recovery, virtual tape, and fixed content storage. Each of the drives in the line feature an average read/write seek time of 8/9 milliseconds, and a sustained data transfer rate of up to 65 MB/sec. Two drive flavors are offered in the NL35 series: for Fibre Channel (offered only directly to OEMs), or SATA implementations. The SATA drives include 7200 RPM platters and a single half-duplex port; an 8 or 16 MB cache; support for NCQ; and capacities of 250, 400, or 500 GB. As features of the SATA drives, the vendor notes SAS compatibility (the drives can be incorporated within an SAS infrastructure in combination with SAS drives; according to the vendor, a single SAS domain can support hundreds of NL35 SATAs), workload management, error recovery control, one-step microcode download, and write-same technology. The SATA drives are offered with 1.5 Gb/sec or 3.0 Gb/sec interfaces.
- The newest entry in the Seagate Enterprise drive family is the Barracuda ES, a 7200 RPM drive that boasts the vendor′s perpendicular recording technology, boosting potential capacity up to 750 GB. The Barracuda ES drives are offered in both SATA and FC flavors; the SATA drives ship with capacities of 250, 400, 500, and 740 GB, while the FC versions ship in 400 and 500 GB capacities. The Barracuda ES drives feature an average read/write seek time of 8.5/9.5 milliseconds, an 8 or 16 MB cache (only 8 in the FC drives), and sustained transfer rates of 67 (FC), 72 (SATA), or 78 (SATA 750GB) MB/sec.
