Motivation
Information Retrieval (IR) is a research area that has generated a great
deal of interest recently, largely due to the growth in Internet use. Many
different problems that have arisen during this time are being solved by
means of the developments and efforts of thousand of researchers around 数据挖掘论坛
the world. These new advances are spread following the usual scientific
channels: journals and conferences. Therefore, researchers are kept a
abreast of new developments in the field.
However, is also very important that both undergraduate and postgraduate
students understand the basis of this discipline, not just with the aim of
conducting research in the future, but also as a way of learning how
search engines work, tools that they use for their own benefit on a daily
basis. IR is a very interesting subject to reinforce the knowledge
acquired in other subjects, such as programming, data structures, user
interface design etc. Postgraduate students who could research in this
area also need to know the fundamental aspects of the subject, simply
because they may be building new solutions for them.
Therefore as important as research is to IR, one way to improve the
profile of the subject is to create a common space where IR lecturers and 数据挖掘研究院
researchers can share their experiences and opinions in the field of IR
teaching at any of the educational levels (primary, secondary and
tertiary). The aim of the workshop is to provide this common space.
Location
The workshop will be held in the BCS HQ building, First Floor The Davidson
Building, 5 Southampton Street, London, WC2E 7HA. Directions can be found

workshop will be held on Wednesday 10th January 2007.

are £80 for BCS or IRSG members, and £100 for non members

doubt, please contact us before registering.
We require every conference delegate to use an institutional email
