American inventor and engineer Ray Kurzweil says computers will achieve human-level intelligence by the year 2029, adding that it's "not going to be an alien invasion of intelligent machines to displace us."
Rather, he says, these smart machines will be used inside the human brain and body to help people be "smarter, remember things better" and work directly on health problems. He said he's made the case that within 21 years, machines will match us.
The computers will have "the broad suppleness of human intelligence including our emotional intelligence." Kurzweil was among 18 intellectuals chosen to identify future technological priorities by the National Academy of Engineering.
